Rattlers baseball preview

The college baseball season is just around the corner and schools are in the finishing stages of practicing and determining lineups.

Florida A&M University's baseball team is no different. Last year, amid multiple distractions, the Rattlers finished with an abysmal record. It culminated with the firing of then-coach Robert Lucas.

There's been a few changes this season, notably in the head coaching position. I talked to pitcher and third baseman David Duncan who not only supported the decision, but now sees a significant turnaround under the new direction. Here's my package on the team's goals this season, and what new coach Brett Richardson expects from his players.

Update on Austin Trout and Camp " No Doubt:"

By Louie Burke

Today, Monday, Jan. 31st will be our last day of camp “No Doubt’ in Ruidoso, NM. The weather has been extremely cooperative here in the high country, despite some chilly mornings, which we expected to encounter and prepared for. Austin’s training regime has been intense and very productive, with the help of “Moose’ Gomez, Joaquin Zamora, David Ordirica, George Romero and Ruidoso Downs’ First Baptist Church, where the gym is located.

Austin’s will be tapering off the intensity of his workouts and go into maintenance mode, we’ll also be concentrating on strategy for the fight . He’s in tremendous condition and will work at a level to maintain his conditioning and sharpness, while resting his body and allowing it time to recover, for the big night. After his run today, we’ll be headed down the mountain to ‘Cruces. Where we’ll get in a evening workout. Tuesday at noon, we’ll be headed off to the airport after a morning run and expect to have a light “shake-out” after we’ve arrived and have gotten settled in Guadalajara.

The people of Ruidoso, have been extremely helpful, with a special shout-outs going to Optometric Physician, Dr Anatole Gutowski and the West Winds Lodge and Condos. We also want to thank boxing expert and writer, Austin Kileen, who offered his house in Albuquerque for us to stay in and train at.

Again, thank you all for the support you’ve given us.

el judas femenino- The Female Judas

Do you know the story of “Judas”?
According to the New Testament, he was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus who betrayed him and led him into the hands of the chief priests for his murder. Speculation surrounds his reasons for doing so, but basically he was one of Jesus’s right hands, whom betrayed him. Knowing this when and if I refer to someone as “Judas” I don’t use the term lightly.

I’ve always been a person who’s been very explicit when picking and choosing “friends”, Im a very private person so to open up to someone, it takes ALOT; it seems all my life I’ve dealt with issues surrounding trust, loyalty, and genuine happiness when it comes to people I call my friend, I’ve found out that the problem lies within me, and I’m doing what I can to correct it. So, it’s with deep regret that I recognize my Judas, but I also feel it necessary to clear my conscience and express my misfortune; hopefully this will help someone else who might be dealing with a disloyal, untrustworthy, betraying “friend”.

You know what you’ve done, all you said, all the things you done/did. Your real funny!- smile in my face, talk BIG behind my back- yetinstill, you never once approach me directly. You send subliminal messages instead, you like that right??? Well here’s one for you.

IM PRAYING FOR YOU
whatever I could think of to get back at you, cannot compare to what life has in store for you. I’m praying that you wake up, and stop claiming the victim role in every situation. God needs to do work in you, stop being stubborn and let him do what he do man.

I don’t have to spread your business around, talk about what you told me in secret. I’M BIGGER THAN THAT. Instead, I use my mouth to speak faith and diligence in prayer- because I believe you truly are a miss-guided soul as we all are and are in need of divine intervention.
You might say I’m judging? I say I’m stating the facts.

You must’ve thought I was gonna vent and spread all your business out there, clearly you don’t know me.
The next time you encounter negativity and adversity. TAKE THE HIGH ROAD. Stooping to the level of ignorance and immaturity only allows that person a victory in their mind. Confuse them and allow nature to take it’s course.

You’ll be glad you did….

Show your support for Ong Tee Keat

The March 8, 2008 general election has changed the country's political landscape. In the poll, the electorate has made it crystal clear that they want a clean, accountable, transparent and corruption-free government. They want a government which can speak up for their aspirations and dreams.

Since the last general election, not many politicians have proven to possess such qualities. Many are only good at crafting beautiful rhetorics but fail in walking the talk. However, one man stood out heads and shoulders above your ordinary fare of politicians - Ong Tee Keat.

Tee Keat is known to be a combative leader who takes up the people's plight without fear or favour. PKFZ has embellished his credentials as a no-nonsense leader who abhors corrupt practices. Many are awed by his single-minded determination to wage a battle against powerful forces with links to even more powerful people - all in the name of justice for taxpayers.

But his efforts have made him many enemies who have selfish interests to safeguard. Some had conspired successfully to topple him as the president of the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) and the same sinister forces are hard at work to finish off Tee Keat for good politically .

As concerned citizens, we cannot allow the looters, insidious conspirators and traitors who subvert national interests to have it their way. The peoples' voice must be heard - here and now, not just during the general election. Now is the time to make your voice heard. Now is the time to stand up and be counted. Now is the time to showcase the People Power.

Show your support for Tee Keat by fill up the form. This is a non-partisan initiative. This is a People's Initiative. Because at the end of the day, it is YOU, the people who will be affected.

Thank you

Favorite vs. History

I was torn watching the Australian Open women's final at 3:30 a.m. earlier. You see I was caught between rooting for the darling of the WTA in Belgian Kim Clijsters and pulling for history to be made if China's Li Na became the first Asian player to win a Grand Slam (Michael Chang, who won a major, is of Asian descent, but was born in and competed for the U.S.)

Under normal circumstances, I'm a Clijsters fan. She has the perfect blend of skill and tennis IQ, coupled with genuine respect for her competitors, which puts her in at least a neutral zone with everyone on the tour. She's gracious in defeat, but just as complimentary of her opponents when she wins. And mostly, she's proof that having a child doesn't signal the end of a career. Cheers to all women who balance both!

Then there's Li Na, who at 29 is enjoying a late surge in her career. She's shown she can win the big matches coming back from a first-set loss. She's also shown a personality uncharacteristic of Chinese players, whose careers are closely managed by the Chinese government. A good example was making fun of her husband's snoring habits on TV and pretending to forget--or maybe genuinely forgetting-- her wedding anniversary during a post-game interview after her semifinal win. Her husband, also her coach, watched from the stands, laughing.

As everyone probably knows by now, Clijsters won the match 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, and in her words, finally earned her nickname "Aussie Kim." Her opponent, a gracious loser, playfully jabbed at her husband one more time before bowing out. All's well that ends well.

Now the stage is set for the men's final, which I'll be watching at about the same time as the women's at 3:30 a.m. And I'm faced with the same dilemma: favorite Novak Djokovic vs. potential history maker Andy Murray.

I have nothing against Murray, but Djokovic, like Clijsters, has won the hearts of tennis fans by not taking himself too seriously. He's famous for mimicking himself and other players on tour, to the delight of fans. He's previously won the Australian Open, his lone Grand Slam, while Murray is in search of his first. On the other hand, Murray has the entire United Kingdom on his back. Winning would make him the first Brit since Fred Perry to win a major in 75 years.

I'm not the only one who favored Clijsters and is picking Djokovic. Critics have picked Djokovic as the more likely winner, just as was Clijsters. Which bags the question, will history repeat itself tonight with the favorite trumping the history maker or will a different kind of history be set, bringing down 75 years of a nation's agony?

I'd love for the curse to be broken and for Murray to set history. It'll undoubtedly generate tons of publicity for tennis. I'd also love to see another player avoid the no-Grand Slam curse, especially when its a player of good character. So I won't be upset if Murray pulls of the win. In fact, I'll be quite happy. I, however, can't imagine rooting against my favorite.

Rattlers Basketball Package.

Here's a package I made for my school's live newscast "News 20 at 5." Overall, I think I did a pretty good job, but I learned through experience why my professor warned us, in a previous class, to stay away from pure black.

I was wearing a black turtleneck sweater, with a splash of white, but it didn't come out as intended on the camera because it made me look darker. Lesson learned. The solution: If you're going to wear black, then throw on a different color, preferably brighter toned, as a jacket or overall.

Well here's my package.

Thought for the Day.by Jewel Diamond Taylor

Thought for the day
"Your thoughts, emotions and habits are the brick and mortar of the house you
live in.  The termites that can eat away at the walls of peace, security and success
are; grudges, resentment, stress, anger, rebellion, dishonesty, pride, selfishness,
fear and procrastination.  Remember you are responsible for exterminating those
termites.  They start off invisible to the eye and grow.  Take care of yourself.
You live inside your head (i.e. thoughts, feelings, memories, habits, beliefs).
Tear down the walls of negativity.  Clear the air of stinkin' thinking.  Open
the windows of your mind to see possibilities.  Build a stronger foundation of faith
to withstand the storms of life.
If necessary, remodel, refresh and renew your interal house with the paint of
gratitude, faith, hope, sense of humor, hope, compassion, patience, self-discipline
and love.  Don't live in dark rooms of depression and grief.

Open the windows and let the light of God's love, peace, grace and power enter in.

Get rid of the cob webs of old limited and fearful thinking."

by Jewel Diamond Taylor

Someday....

I wanna walk with you, follow in your footsteps
Talk with you to find out where my good's kept
I been gone away from home for so long
Seems like everything I try to do without you go wrong
I'm confused about a lot of things, but not with my fate
So I'm depending on your holy ghost to guide me the way
See I'm a sinner in the 3rd degree
Ain't afraid to admit it, scause I seen niggas worse than me
Who am I to judge a man when I'm a man myself
In the dark, trying to get me some help
I went from pawn to king, king back to pawn
Doing my best to try to ease out the storm
I know that every tunnel's got an end and a light
And I prepared a new beginning in Christ
My life is like a jigsaw dulling in time
And as I'm thumbing through this jigsaw puzzle of mine

Austin Trout update: Camp "No Doubt"

Photos Courtesy of Louie Burke
Austin “No Doubt” Trout, hard at work in the high country of Ruidoso, NM.

By Louie Burke

This is as absurd as it sounds, but the venue and the fight date has been changed once again. As of late last week, we were told that it was going to be on Feb. 5th and moved to Guanajuato, Mexico, which is located at a 6,500 ft elevation, so we moved camp to the pines of Ruidoso, New Mexico, elevation 7,000 ft. As of 7:30 am this morning we were notified venue has been changed to Guadalajara, Mex. Elevation 5,500 ft. and Rigoberto Alvarez’s hometown. The good news? The dates the same, Feb. 5th.

We’ve settled into camp “No Doubt” in Ruidoso and taking full advantage of the altitude and seclusion of the high country. Camp is going well, despite the adjustments. Sparring partners Joaquin Zamora , Abie Han and Tudy Crespin, are great in pushing Austin in sparring and roadwork.

Austin knows he’s going into the lions den, but “ no doubt” bout it, will come back with the lions head! The constant mind games these promoters are pulling signifies that they’re not confident in Alvarez’s ability to win square and fair, thus doing as much as possible to sway the advantages into their favor. Alvarez is going to need much more help than having “ his” promoter to keep changing dates and locations to pull this off.

In Austin’s quest for the title, we’ve encountered so much support and good will from so many awesome people, who are wanting to see Austin do well and bring back the championship. Austin and I would like to start by thanking his sparring partners, who are a great bunch of guys starting with Joaquin Zamora, Arturo “ Tudy” Crespin, Abie Han, Rodrigo Villarreal, Edward Hernandez, and Rene Armijo, who also lent us his gym, Fighters Physique in El Paso, Tx. Also, Belia Alvarez and staff from the Hampton Inn in Las Cruces for they’re accommodations and hospitality, J.C and Chris Linson, for offering a place to stay in Santa Fe. Al Lovato for offering his gym in Santa Fe. David Ordorica and George Romero for Allowing us to train in there gym in Ruidoso, and Tony with West Wind Lodge and Condos, for they’re hospitality. Thanks to Larry Clark and the Village of Dona Ana Boxing Club, for their help and assistance in Austin’s preparation. And Randy “Moose” Gomez for his expertise and help. Ernest Gabion and Everlast for sponsoring Austin and providing his equipment. And the many other people that I’m sure I’ll remember that I forgot to mention, once I’ve sent this update in.

Thanks for your support in this long and grueling quest for the title.

Venus Williams down but not out

Say what you want about how the quality of Venus Williams' game has deteriorated as she's transitioned into the elder stateswoman of the WTA, but don't question her commitment to tennis.

Not after her big comeback in last night's second round match against Czech Republic's Sandra Zahlavova.

With defending champion Serena Williams unable to compete due to an injury, Venus entered the Australian Open as the only ranked American woman at the No. 4 seed. She cruised to a straight-set first round win, and then came her battle in the second round.

Locked in a first set tie-break against Zahlavova, Williams appeared to pull a groin muscle, forcing a shrieking yell uncharacteristic of Venus, who's known to show very little emotion during matches. After losing the next point, and the set, Williams left the court on an injury time out to get her upper right thigh wrapped.

During the course of their lengthy careers, the Williams sisters have been accused of losing their commitment to tennis. Serena dabbled in acting amongst other things while Venus began a career as an interior and fashion designer. But after Tuesday's match, the older Williams silenced her critics.

Not only did Venus return, she went on to take the next two sets 6-0, 6-4. A couple of her rallies produced more shrieking noises and replays showed Williams repeatedly wincing as she went for shots. But no excuses. Commentators even noted that Williams waved off the trainer who was waiting to provide more treatment at the first break of the second set.

I've been watching tennis matches for decades now, and following Venus' career since it began, but I never realized one fact. In 257 Grand Slam matches played, Venus has never retired from a match. As injury-prone as she is, it is a remarkable feat for Venus to accomplish.

At 30, Venus is no longer the quickest player on tour. Once able to get to every ball, Venus can barely keep up with the younger crop of players on the tour. And while her name, along with her her sister's, will always be dropped among contenders at majors, she is hardly considered the favorite anymore. Her place in tennis history has been set so she could retire any day now and get the full credit she deserves for advancing the popularity of the sport. She's got nothing left to prove.

So it makes Venus' decision to continue playing even more commendable. We've watched as peers Lindsay Davenport, Justine Henin and Kim Clijsters have retired from competition at some point in their careers. But with all their off-the-court commitments, Venus and Serena have never walked away from the game.

Venus has never won the Australian Open and she isn't favored to win this year. But with younger promising players like Jelena Jankovic and Dinara Safina crashing out in the early rounds, she may have a shot. Clijsters, the heavy favorite, lost in the final of a warm up tournament leading up to this week, so there are signs that she could crack under pressure.

If Venus is able to recover from the injury before her next match, and make a run into the second week, then we could witness the resurgence of her career; a fitting accomplishment to achieve in Australia, also known as the Down Under.

Daily Quote 01.19.2011

Someone said if the people around u won't change, change the people around you.-

KARMA

Chinese symbol for karma

Karma (Sanskrit: कर्म IPA: [ˈkərmə]  ( listen);[1] Pali: kamma) in Indian religions is the concept of "action" or "deed", understood as that which causes the entire cycle of cause and effect (i.e., the cycle called saṃsāra) originating in ancient India and treated in Hindu, Jain, Buddhist and Sikh philosophies.

'Karma' is an Indian religious concept in contradistinction to 'faith' espoused by Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam), which view all human dramas as the will of God as opposed to present—and past—life actions. In theistic schools of Hinduism, humans have free will to choose good or evil and suffer the consequences, which require the will of God to implement karma's consequences, unlike Buddhism or Jainism which do not accord any role to a supreme God or Gods. In Indian beliefs, the karmic effects of all deeds are viewed as actively shaping past, present, and future experiences. The results or 'fruits' of actions are called karma-phala.
Do you believe in karma?
I DO. I’ve had karma hit me hard. All the wrongs I’ve done, somehow came back to me, all the good I’ve done, came back too. SO when you look around and feel as though the world just isn’t dealing you the cards you want- take a look back @ what you’ve done to others. And if you feel as though your blessed beyond your own imagination- take a look back @ what you’ve done to others.

All is explained by your actions
You get back, what you dish out.

Remember that.

Try to call your best friend but he's not there

Newscast producer debut

I had the honor of producing the first live newscast of the year today, and I'm sure you may be expecting me to brag about how effortless the show was as proof of my natural ability to produce news shows.

It wasn't the case.

I had everything that could possibly go wrong, happen. And when I mean wrong, I mean not having videos to go along with most of my stories because there was an issue with the way the videos were formatted. This meant that many of my stories were readers* or even worse, dropped. You know what happens when stories get dropped without back up stories to replace them? You guessed right, I was grossly under my allotted time for the show. Fortunately we were able to get by on re-running a weather wrap and having our anchors chat about the stories.

In retrospect, I can breathe a sigh of relief like everyone suggested I do. Afterall I just produced a show with no black holes in them and all my stories (I believe) read cleanly. But I think the embarrassment of not coming as close to the quality of work I set for myself was hard to swallow; even for a first try at it. So much that I shed a few tears of anger. Yes, you read right. And now you know a little personality trait about me, I tear up whenever I'm very upset.

But after a few words of encouragement from two of my professors, I am ready to move on and give this another shot next week. Although with about 15 weeks left to the end of the semester I really have no choice but to.

*Reader: An anchor reading a script on camera with a graphic picture on the top left or right corner of the screen illustrating the subject of the story.

A Little ?

Q.Would you ever give me another chance to make things right?
A. Every one deserves a seond chance but, unfortunately I cant be the one to give it to you.

Some Buddhist philosophy ...

Lord Buddha was sitting under a banyan tree.
One day, a furious farmer came to him and started abusing him.

The farmer thought that Lord Buddha would reciprocate in the same manner,

but to his utter surprise, there was not the slightest change in the expression on his face.

Now, the farmer became more furious.

He hurled more and more abuses at Buddha.

However, Lord Buddha was completely unmoved.

Actually there was a look of compassion on his face.

Ultimately the farmer was tired of abusing him.

He asked, "I have been abusing you, but why are you not angry at all?"

Lord Buddha calmly replied, "My dear brother, I have not accepted a single abuse from
you."

"But you heard all of them, didn't you?" The farmer argued half-heartedly.

Buddha said, "I do not need the abuses, so why should I even hear them?"

Now the farmer was even more puzzled.

He could not understand the calm reply from Lord Buddha.

Looking at his disturbed face, Buddha further explained, "All those abuses remain with you."

"It cannot be possible. I have hurled all of them at you," the farmer persisted.

Buddha calmly repeated his reply, "But I have not accepted even a single abuse from you!

Dear brother, suppose you give some coins to somebody, and if he does not accept them, with whom will those coins remain?"

The farmer replied, "If I have given the coins and not needed by someone, then naturally they would remain with me."

With a meaningful smile on his face, Buddha said, "Now you are right.

The same has happened with your abuses.

You came here and hurled abuses at me, but I have not accepted a single abuse from you.

Hence, all those abuses remain with you only.

So there is no reason to be angry with you."

The farmer remained speechless.

He was ashamed of his behavior and begged for Buddha's forgiveness.

Lesson to Learn from This Story:

  • Inner calmness and peace are keys to a contented life.

  • You know who you are and what you want in life, so don't respond to what person said about you in anger.

  • Control your anger with patience and calmness.

  • That is the biggest strength of a wise man.

  • Never take some one for granted, hold every person close to your heart because you might wake up one day and realize that you have lost a diamond while you were too busy collecting stones.

What to look for!

Happy New Year!

I know it's almost three weeks into the year, but I'm starting off the year with a new blog that combines several projects I have in the works; almost all revolving around my career in sports.

As many of my friends know, and I hope others getting acquainted with me will find out, I have been passionate about sports since I knew how to walk. Once it became obvious that I wasn't going to have a professional career in any of the seven sports I played up to high school, I became passionate about covering the athletes who do.

Since leaving my job as a sports editor of a newspaper to pursue a master's in broadcast journalism, I've learned how to use a video camera to tell stories I'd normally tell in print, on video. And while I'm becoming more experienced as a broadcast journalist, I want to continue to do what I've loved doing best: writing.

So the purpose of this blog is to combine all of these elements. I'm in my last semester of graduate school and working on a documentary as my graduate project. I hope everything will go smoothly, but anticipate the possibility that there may be a few hiccups. I'll share the journey to its completion.

Last semester, my documentary Ke Nako, was selected to air in the spring semester's "J School Journals." It means I'll have to cut the 27-minute documentary to 15 minutes. So I'll also document some of that process through my blog.

I came back to school to get a world of experiences that would prepare me for a career as a multimedia journalist. Covering the World Cup in South Africa is one of them. Becoming a producer for FAMU's News 20 @ 5 is another. It's something I've never done, and I'll also be a reporter on a day that I'm not producing, but I'm up for the challenge.

Lastly, you'll be getting my thoughts and opinions about stories that capture my attention in sports. Some of them will be the biggest news in sports, but others may be the stories no one's giving the attention it deserves

So here's to the new year and new experiences. I'll leave you with my trailer for Ke Nako (It's Time,) about South Africa's journey from independence from apartheid to hosting the World Cup.

Enjoy!

LET GO & LET GOD!!!!

"Y do we hold on to the stuff/ppl/attachments/relationships etc. tht God is literally trying to tear us apart from?!?!"- An Associate of Mine

Someone i know posted that as a status today and it's been stuck with me ever since, why do i as a person hold on to the things not good for me? that god might very well be attempting to tear me from?

it's rather easy for me to let go of toxic friends, attempt to let go of an unfullfilling job or attempt to move away from an unsafe neighboorhood. but somethings, esp. in love- i hold on until either one of two things happen: i get hurt, or i hurt that person. i remember praying some nights to God, asking him why did i fall in love with this man? he's not ready for commitment, he's not this, he's not that- and then when things were going right, i would at times thank god, for bringing him into my life.....weird? isn't it? the same thing i saw as a problem, i saw as a blessing. not saying that there's necessarily something wrong with that, but no one should have to live like that- at least i don't, i realize trails and tribulations in a relationship come with the territory but when you have to question the almighty why? either your not ready, the other person isn't ready, or maybe this just isn't the relationship/right person for you.

it ultimately fell apart- at the time i didn't see the reasons why, but as time passes and i still interact with this person- it's proven why- i see my wrongs- i see their wrongs- i see the things that i did that lead to its demise.

the thing that i must do now- is learn from it, grow from it, and seek to remove myself from up under the crumbles and rumbles of what the relationship used to be- stand on top of it a strong, redefined, confident woman whose not scared of loving again, whose not going to use that experience to judge all men like that, and whose not going to allow the toxic things i removed out of my life to fall back in.

with all this said- it helps explain the picture above. Let GO and Let GOD- happens to be one of my favorite quotations, and finding this picture- helped me understand things alot more clearer.

there's no use in complaining about things/people/relationships/situations etc. in your life that you have control over but choose to continue to keep in your life that causes you pain- what does complaining do besides cause stress/badhealth/badatttitudes? let whatever's bad GO- easier said than done- but you never know the outcome until you try.

Guess who's going to bail out PKA?

Malaysiakini
Jan 14, 11 9:51am

'The Humpty Dumpty of PKFZ has been knocked off its perch. Now all the Soi Leks and Najibs cannot put in back together again.'

SusahKes: Port Klang Authority (PKA) chairperson Lee Hwa Beng, may we - the taxpayers of Malaysia - ask you a down to earth, honest to goodness, question?

After all this revelation, and all the white elephants and bailouts that you and I have witnessed from the Mahathir years to now, do you and MCA, still want Umno to govern this nation?

At which point do you, MCA chief Chua Soi Lek and Co, develop some modicum of conscience and guilt, that Umno has played everyone out in this country (other than their own kind)?

Titan: Come on rakyat, we need to make the government and PM Najib Razak more accountable, not less. Former transport minister Ong Tee Keat (OTK) had strenuously attempted to do that, but he was hung out to dry.

The Humpty Dumpty of PKFZ (Port Klang Free Zone) has been knocked off its perch by the OTK's insistence of an independent inquiry into the sordid affairs of PKFZ. Now all the Soi Leks and Najibs cannot put in back together again.

Anonymous_4196: What? And yet Najib wants to build a 100-storey tower in order to attract investors? Didn't BN sang the same song when pitching the idea of PKFZ in 2001?

Lover Boy: Any reasonable Malaysian knows that PKFZ will be bankrupt due to the magnitude of its debt. What Lee Hwa Beng is saying is nothing new.

What I want to know is when will the government go after the real culprits, charging some small fries like former PKA general manager OC Phang and former MCA chief Ling Liong Sik will not pacify Malaysians. This leakage is not small - it is so big that nothing man-made can cover this hole.

MACC, please go after the bigger fish. Use PricewaterhouseCooper audit report as a guide.

ForJustice: Okay, so now who's going to bail them out? The government again? If yes, this means we taxpayers are paying for it. I think all those involved from the government ministers approving this project down to the company's officers must be held accountable, and pay for it.

Tailek: No report will come out from the super task force, not even long after chief secretary to the government Mohd Sidek Hassan has retired. I would not be surprised that no one in government is even looking into this matter anymore.

That is Malaysia Boleh for you. Every form of financial corruption and sex scandal is permissible and excusable so long as you are in the right camp, and that camp is the BN camp. This apathy is so sickening it makes you want to weep for Malaysia.

Longjaafar: Is this the kind of 'good management' of the country's economy that we hear so much about? Maybe they need to hire another set of CONsultants to look into this.

Ghkok: Every sen being used to bailout PKFZ is one sen less for improving transportation, policing, education, programmes for the poor and needy, etc. Every additional sen used for bailout brings us closer and closer to the 2019 bankruptcy date as stated by Pemandu chief Idris Jala.

Clearwater: Numerous BN politicians involved in this fraudulent white elephant have still not been charged in court. That is the most galling part of the PKFZ scandal. No accountability, no responsibility, no transparency, no morality. That about sums it up. On this fiasco alone, BN deserves to lose power in the next general election.

Michael Angelo: I read that in China, corrupt officials responsible for fiasco of such magnitude will have to pay for the bullet used to execute them after they are found guilty. And their body parts and organs donated to needy transplants.

Considering the wastage of RM12 billion of public money, perhaps this form of penalty can be considered.

Enviroman: The federal government must not bail out PKFZ. Let it go bankrupt. Federal funds are our funds, our taxpayers' money. Don't let our funds be put to questionable use. Malaysians must protest to pressure them into not bailing out PKFZ. Who will start the ball rolling?

PKFZ may face 'bankruptcy' over soft loan

Malaysiakini
Kuek Ser Kuang Keng
Jan 13, 11 1:30pm

Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) will not be able to finance its RM4.6 billion soft loan from the Finance Ministry, which it must begin servicing from this year.

It is likely that without federal government intervention, the controversy-ridden mega project operated by the Port Klang Authority (PKA) will become bankrupt, albeit technically, next year.

"Even if PKFZ is fully tenanted, we will not be able to start paying up on our loan instalment to the Finance Ministry from this year, according to the Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PWC) report," PKA chairperson Lee Hwa Beng said in an interview yesterday.

After three years of operation, the free-trade zone is still underutilised. The occupancy rate for light industrial units is close to 50 percent, while only about 25 percent of the land is occupied.

The occupancy rate for office blocks is about five percent. Others facilities, such as a hotel and an exhibition hall that is larger than the Mines International Exhibition Convention Centre, are still not operational.

Waiting for a lifeline from MOF

The PWC audit report commissioned by former Transport Minister Ong Tee Keat in 2009 to probe the PKFZ scandal, said the project outlay has ballooned from RM1.96 billion when it was conceived in 2001 to a staggering RM12 billion.

PKA was unable to fund its obligations to PKFZ turnkey contractor Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd (KDSB) from its own resources when the first scheduled payment was due in 2007.

Following this, the Treasury disbursed a RM4.632 billion 20-year soft loan, which critics see as a bailout of a failed government project.

The cash flow projections by PKA indicates that it would be unable to service its loan instalments between 2012 and 2041, thereby attracting additional interest of another RM5 billion.

This will bring the total project outlay to a whopping RM12.453 billion by year 2051, according to the audit report.

However, Lee, whose term will end on March 31, is confident that the federal government will not allow PKFZ to go bankrupt.

"We pay the Finance Ministry, not a third party, and we are part of the federal government. So the port will not become insolvent... definitely business will carry on and the terminal operators can continue to do their business," Lee said.

The PWC audit report states that PKA could, however, avoid or reduce the extra RM5 billion interest cost on two conditions: by restructuring the Treasury's soft loan, and by making the project viable.

'Totally uninformed' on task force findings

A 'super' task force, set up by cabinet in October 2009, was supposed to study the project and offer solutions to the current dire situation.

However, Lee claimed to be "totally uninformed" about the findings of the task force since it was set up.

"I don't know if the task force has come out with a report," he said, adding that any solution must be implemented through PKA because it was the statutory body governing PKFZ.

The high-powered task force, headed by chief secretary to the government Mohd Sidek Hassan, was established by the cabinet after the PKFZ investigation report, commissioned by Ong, was submitted to the cabinet.

It was to determine if there was misconduct or criminal element on the part of individuals or entities involved in the project and recommend actions to be taken against them if there were, recommend measures to improve governance as well as PKFZ's management, prepare a restructuring plan and formulate business models for PKA and PKFZ.

It was given six months, to come out with a report, which meant the due date was April 2010.

But no announcement on the report has come forth from the government so far.

Love Quote 4 U

A nice girl will always get hurt, until she finds that nice guy that has been hurt too. Together they will learn to give and receive true love. Because everyone must love the wrong person before they learn to appreciate the right one. ♥

Never Satisfied

Death and Destruction are never satisfied, and neither are the eyes of man
Proverbs 27:20

It amazes me how people stone those whom are NEVER SATISFIED. here's something to meditate on, i am CONTENT with my life, God's hand is guiding me on this journey, i'm gaining more knowledge everyday!~I'm never satisfied with what i know. I attempt to do new things everyday, experience a new feeling, a new thought, a new direction~ i'm never satisfied with my present, because i know that God is working in me. I hunger for a better life, a better career, a better education, a better relationship!~I'm never satisfied because I know that where i stand right now is only temporary. What looks impossible to you- is possible to me because I know how God works. I'm down when i'm down, I feel depressed, oh yeah I'm not saying I'm Perfect- all this proves that I'm hungry- maintaining my humbleness- but i know that too is only temporary. Don't judge me because i require alot more than what your used to; i deserve what i know i do, i'm gonna be better, wiser, more appreciative and a strong woman in god.

if that all means i'm never satisfied....so be it.

Music Interlude Anthony Hamilton - "Never Love Again"

Hairapy- DRY Scalp!!!!

I know i'm not alone when i say that the winter does a number on your hair. Recently i've stopped wearing half-wigs (I WILL START AGAIN FOR THE SUMMER!!) and focused on bettering the condition of my hair, it's growing beautifully, stronger than ever, and seems to be rebounding well from my progressively HARSH bleach/color/relaxer/rinse phase. Now that it's winter time i'm having an even harder time with my hair, primarily because my scalp gets dry quickly, and it also cannot handle alot of oil/grease. it puts me in a bad situation because i do have long, THICK hair- which is already hard to keep clean; but factor in the fact that it's JET BLACK and you have some comb thru mornings and i'm like WTF?!?!?!. I'm experimenting with oils/cremes etc to get control over this situation, i was told by a stylist to start with a good clarifying shampoo, i'm still researching on what to try; i'm also trying this new product by SoftSheen Carson, called "Optimum Care Dandruff Solutions-Daily Flake Control" i lightly (that is the key) dabbed a bit in several quick parts in my hair and brushed it into a style- so far, so good. my hair isn't as itchy- but the directions on the bottle suggest using this product 3 to 4 times a day- which anyone with relaxed hair knows just isn't realistic. however if i see in a few days my hair becomes dirty and/or itchy i will apply more. it's a water based type of liquid which isn't very thick at all- but i was afraid it would wet my roots too much, but again i lighly placed it in a few areas. again, so far so good, i'm hoping it works out so i can maintain my schedule of washing my hair every 2 weeks.
